Establishment of the Children's Bureau
This publication gives the text of the legislation that established the U.S. Children's Bureau in 1912 and describes the background that led up to the legislation, Congress's intended scope of the bureau, and plans for immediate work, including a statistical handbook, a library of current publications, a clearinghouse for actual and pending legislation, an original investigation of infant mortality, birth registration, and the issuance of popular pamphlets. It is a publication of the U.S. Department of Labor, Children's Bureau.
